My story
When I was in kindergarten, I met my best friend, Justin. Justin wore a lanyard around his neck with a wallet of pictures attached to it. He also created his own sign language. Those were just two of the many ways he communicated. My favorite way he communicated was when he put his arm around my shoulder. As we grew up together, Justin used a high tech AAC device to communicate. Justin taught me how people with disabilities can break down barriers through the power of friendship, inclusion and assistive technology. He inspired me to teach others how to be autonomous, and independent.

About me
I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Special Education in 2014. I taught autistic students in fourth through seventh grades that received a continuum of support across different educational environments. In 2017, I received my graduate certificate in Assistive Technology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and became a certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) through RESNA. Since, I have been an Assistive Technology Facilitator serving students in preschool through eighth grade. I present nationally at conferences and am actively involved in numerous professional learning networks.
